Do you own a car? Do you want to know what are the mistakes car owners make on a regular basis?
These are silly mistakes and if they knew they wouldn’t have made them in the first place. So, ride this journey with me and learn all the mistakes even if you don’t own a car.
So that when you do have one car in the future, you won’t make the same mistakes in your life.
Driving as soon as starting the car
When you get in your car in the morning, what’s the first thing you do?
You open the car door, put your keys in, and start the car. Do you take any breaks in between? I know the answer is NO.
But that’s a wrong approach. When you’re starting your car, you should take some time before actually driving the car. You need to let the fluids flow and let it warm for some time.
If you live in a cold country, then it’s even more required. When your car is turned off all night, the engine stays cold, and in colder countries, it’s even more cold.
So, to get the engine warm, one needs to start the car and wait for a while before heading out.
Revving fast as soon as starting the car
When you just took your car out, give it some time to warm the engine. Don’t speed up. It will put unnecessary pressure on your engine.
Your engine is not warm and prepared enough to operate smoothly when you rev at the start of the day. That’s why it’s always best practice to not speed. However, it’s always best practice to not speed unless it’s an emergency.
Regular vs Premium Gas
Every car comes with an owner’s manual. In that manual, it’s specifically noted which fuel is needed for that particular car.
If your car requires regular then go with the regular. If it’s premium then go with the premium. You don’t need to use premium if your car says regular. You’ll only be wasting money down the process.
Oil Change
When it comes to cars, people tend to be on the extreme side. They either don’t check the engine oil at all or they change the oil too soon.
It’s not required to change the engine oil every couple of thousand miles. Engine oil lasts more than that. If you’re using synthetic oil then it will last even more.
One thing you can do is, keep the mileage written on the oil filter, that way you will remember when was the last time you changed your oil.
I normally write it in Excel, which makes my life easier that way.
Inspect Car Regularly
Every once in a while, you should inspect the car you’re driving. A car has many components and it’s super easy to not look at it. You can make a checklist of every component that your car has, and give it a routine checkup whenever you have some free time.
This way, you’ll be confident about your car and won’t fall into any unwanted circumstances.
Tire Pressure
Make sure your tire pressure is enough. You don’t want the pressure to be too high or too low. Now you may not know what’s the recommended tire pressure of your car. You can get that information from the owner’s manual. Or you can take a look at the driver-side door, tire pressure should be written there.
Often times we don’t check the tire threads as well. Threads are a very important factor to know whether your tires are in good condition or not.
Each tire has a life cycle, after that life cycle it’s unsafe to drive that. When tire threads wear down, it gradually loses grip on the road. That’s why it’s very important to know your tire condition.
Owners Manual
Every car comes with an owner’s manual. I bet 90% of people don’t even go through the manual even once in their entire lifetime. This is just sad. It takes a couple of hours to read the entire thing.
Once you read the owner’s manual you will understand how your cars operate. It will give you knowledge and that knowledge will help you to drive your car better.
Cleaning the Car
Most people don’t know the proper ways to clean their cars. But fear not as I have made a detailed article on all the mistakes that one might make while cleaning their cars. How many, 12 in total, Ssshhhh, don’t tell anyone, here’s the link to that article if you want to read it.
It’s always nice to keep your car in proper maintenance. If you drive your car safely and don’t make all these mistakes then chances are your car’s going to last long and won’t give you any trouble in the long run. You don’t have to take it to the mechanics shop every now and then.
